Good but weird night
Okay so today I noticed that if I leave early enough sitting in traffic can actually be relaxing and give me some time to think. What I don’t appreciate are all the lane and exit closures on EVERY freeway I need to be on. Until you’ve spent real amounts of time in this city you will never understand Michael Douglas’ movie Falling down.
Anyway, tonight was really great because they put my picture up at the Comedy and Magic Club in Redondo. It’s such a great club with such a great reputation and they treat comics so well it really is an honor. One of the things that makes me feel so good about it is I have to clean on stage when I’m there. I’m not my regular foul mouth self and they still like me enough to put me on the wall. I know some people don’t really think about stuff like this but I’m happy for everything I get in stand-up. I’m thankful for the fact that I get to work with people who have been in stand-up FOREVER and tell me stories about what things were like in the 80′s comedy boom or old school stories of doing Carson or even just plain road stories. I try not to fan out and sometimes feel really awkward because I remember a lot of these people from watching them on TV when I was a kid. And they’re all so nice and down to earth and I can’t tell you how thankful I am to even be able to do the club on a regular basis. Btw, I realize that may have sounded a bit gush-y and kiss ass-y and it’s because I realize that that I almost hate to admit that it’s all sincere :-/
Alright so moving on. If you know me I have a “refuse to leave a winner” policy where no matter what great club I’ve done in a night I almost always go to some shitty open-mics right after to stay loose and work on new ideas, this night was no exception. Immediately after Comedy and Magic I went to the Westwood Brewing Company to do their open-mic. I go there as regularly as I can and know and respect a lot of the comics that show up there so even though the “audience” is usually a bunch of drunk (to SUPER drunk) college kids it’s usually an alright time. I ended up going on several comics after getting there and had quite bit of fun with them. Okay, so, I’m outside and had just finished saying goodnight to my friend Jamar Neighbors when I get a call from my friend Jamar Neighbors, first thought was either Jamar Neighbors just butt-dialed me or this dude is REALLY needy. I almost ignored it assuming it was a butt-dial but decided to answer. Sure enough it was Jamar Neighbors calling to tell me something had happened to my car and they wanted to talk to me downstairs. I went downstairs and found out it was the cops who wanted to talk to me because someone had seen a guy kick my car. Long story short they caught the guy identified him offered to take him to jail or have him agree to pay for the damage and sign a paper saying such give me his contact info. All that business which really felt more like me wasting my time that getting anything done but everybody was nice enough and I got to talking about stand-up with one of the cops so it was all pleasantly annoying..if that makes sense. I doubt I’ll hit the guy up but was glad they put the scare in him just so maybe he’ll think twice about damaging somebody else’s property just because he gets in an argument with his girlfriend (that’s what had happened). Alright so I think I’m done typing now and A LOT of you were probably done reading a while ago but this is my blog for today. Sorry if it’s a dud I’ll get better at writing them. For now it’s more of an exercise. Thanks for paying attention.
Btw, if you have any questions for me or possible blog suggestions post them in my comments and I’ll answer/try to blog about it
